Late surge pushes M-P past Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS -The Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball team rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Lake Stevens 45-38 in Wednesday’s Western Conference North game.

Nikki Jordan capped a 15-3 run with 48 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter with a back-breaking 3-pointer to seal the victory.

“We were up 35-30 and then they tore us up with a 15-3 run,” Lake Stevens coach Tom Tri said. “That 3-pointer was just a killer. We did a great job holding Nikki to just eight points. But we left her open and she drained a 22-footer. It’s a mistake to leave her alone, especially in the fourth quarter.”

Marysville-Pilchuck is part of a three-way tie for fourth place in the Wesco North with Lake Stevens and Cascade, all with 4-4 league records.

M-P’s Amanda Dunbar scored five of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter while Jordan finished with eight points.

“It was a good game and that’s why I am so depressed,” Tri said. “We played hard and then we just gave it to them in the fourth quarter.”

The Tommies outscored the Vikings 20-10 in the final frame.

Katie Holloway scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter for the Vikings, who led after three quarters 35-30.
