Vienna Krumwiede, a 17-year-old senior-to-be at Everett’s Archbishop Murphy High School, placed first in the +59kg kumite elite division at the USA National Karate Championship and Team Trials, July 11-14, in Greenville S.C.
Krumwiede also placed third in the kata elite division and second in the team kumite open division 16-17.
Next up for Krumwiede will be the 2013 Junior Pan American Karate Championships, Aug. 25-Sept. 1, in Medellin, Colombia. She will also travel to Guadalajara, Spain for the 2013 Junior World Championships, Nov. 7-10.
Maureen Stevens (Mukilteo) took bronze in the female 35-and-over novice kata division.
Theo Pardike (Mukilteo) took bronze in the male 14-15 elite kumite division and made the USA Karate national team for the first time as an alternate
Marina Hrycenko (Everett) placed third in both kata and kumite in the female 12-13 elite divisions and made the USA Karate national team in both events for the first time.
Aleen Mills (Snohomish) placed third in advance kata and second in the 16-17-year-old female eilte kumite division, making the USA Karate national team and will also compete at the Pan American Championships.
