Lummi stops Tulalip streak

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – It’s hard to beat a team four times in a season. The Tulalip Heritage Hawks found that out Saturday, losing to the Lummi Blackhawks 74-72 in a 1B bi-district semifinal game at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Riding an 18-game winning streak and having beaten Lummi three times this season, the Hawks were expecting more of the same. However, that wasn’t the case.

The Hawks spotted Lummi a 17-point lead (48-31) going into the second half and needed to make some adjustments.

“We needed to start attacking the basket; we couldn’t stand outside shooting 3’s tonight,” Tulalip coach Leon Enick said. Tulalip Heritage shot 1-for-19 from 3-point range.

Lesjar scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks in a second-half surge.

“It’s a tough game to lose … now we’ve got to come back and win two games,” Enick said.

Tulalip Heritage faces Master’s Touch in a loser-out game at 3 p.m. Friday at Cedarcrest Middle School in Marysville. Lummi plays in the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Neah Bay defeated Lopez Island in the other semifinal.
