Lynnwood rallies to beat Jackson

LYNNWOOD – The Lynnwood volleyball team rallied after losing two straight sets Tuesday to defeat Jackson 3-2 in a Wesco South meeting.

“We haven’t played five sets in a long time,” Lynnwood coach Jean Kellogg said. “I was a little worried that the girls might not have any left.”

After topping Jackson (4-3 league, 7-5 overall), 25-23, 25-23 in the first two sets, the Royals (6-2, 8-5) lost two games by a combined score 50-22.

“I am not sure what happened. I think our girls went flat for those two loses,” Kellogg said. “But they came back when it counted most.”

The Royals, led by Daylene Wilkie’s five kills, two blocks and three digs, won the fifth and final set 15-9. Wilkie finished the day with 19 kills and 14 digs for the Royals.

Shorewood 3, Mountlake Terrace 1: At Shoreline, Stephanie Laws had two aces and six kills, Jillian Bruton had two aces, three kills and 13 assists and Stephanie West had four aces and eight kills to lead Shorewood (2-5 league, 3-8 overall) to the 25-15, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23 Wesco South win. Capri Rowland had six kills, Rachel Stanley had 20 assists and Sam Richardson had seven kills and five aces for Terrace (0-7, 1-11).

Kamiak 3, Edmonds-Woodway 0: At Edmonds, Stephanie Lau had 16 kills and teammate Elisabeth Smith had 20 assists to lead Kamiak (4-3 league, 8-4 overall) to the 26-24, 25-21, 25-16 Wesco South win. Erin Greenwood had 14 kills and four block kills for the Warriors (3-4, 5-7).

Shorecrest 3, Mariner 0: At Everett, Becky Scherer led the Scots (7-1 league, 13-1 overall) to the 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 Wesco South win with 10 kills. Senior Sarah Morris led Mariner (2-6, 2-11) with 15 assists, three kills and three blocks.

Everett 3, Meadowdale 0: At Everett, Nicole Barhanovich had 12 assists and 12 digs and Jennifer Luatua added six kills for Everett (8-0 league, 13-0 overall) in its 25-8, 25-17, 25-10 Wesco South victory over Meadowdale (1-6, 3-9).

Snohomish 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Snohomish, the Panthers’ Daesha Henderson led the way to the 26-24, 25-15, 25-12 Wesco North victory, piling up seven kills and 13 digs. Stephanie Herd hammered home 10 kills for Snohomish (6-0 league, 11-1 overall). Lake Stevens fell to 4-3, 8-5.

Arlington 3, Cascade 0: At Everett, Shayna Pruse had nine kills, two aces and three digs to lead Arlington (1-5 league, 2-11 overall) to its first Wesco North victory, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 over Cascade (0-6, 0-9).

Oak Harbor 3, Stanwood 1: At Oak Harbor, senior Heidi McNeill led the Wildcats (5-1 league, 10-2 overall) to the 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21 Wesco North win, racking up 18 kills and three blocks. Krystal Rousselle contributed nine kills and five ace serves for Oak Harbor. Megan Amundson slammed 10 kills for the Spartans (3-3, 6-6).

Mount Vernon 3, Marysville-Pilchuck 2: At Marysville, Tara Cunningham had 16 kills, Katie Moyer had 35 assists, Ana Olson had 19 digs and Abby Taylor had 12 kills and 11 digs to lead Mount Vernon (2-4 league, 6-6 overall) to the 25-14, 21-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-8 Wesco North win. Melissa Thompson had three kills and 35 assists, Kaytee Thomas had 10 kills and Carly Conway had 11 kills for M-P (3-4, 4-8).

Cedarcrest 3, South Whidbey 1: At Langley, Catie Newman had 16 kills and Sara Hicks had 11 kills for South Whidbey (7-4 league, 8-4 overall). Cedarcrest (10-1, 11-2) captured its 10th Cascade Conference victory. Shannon Rohr had 11 kills, one block and three digs, Britney Carlson had 26 assists, three kills and 11 digs, Betsy Westermann had one ace, five kills, two blocks and seven digs, Whitney Oviatt had five kills and four blocks and Jessica Gunderson had two aces, six kills, two blocks and five digs for Cedarcrest.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Lakewood 0: At Everett, Ashley Werner had 15 assists and five kills and Lisa Coate added 13 kills to help lead Archbishop Murphy (5-6 league, 6-7 overall) to a 26-24, 25-11, 25-13 Cascade Conference victory over Lakewood (2-7, 2-10).

King’s 3, Granite Falls 1: At Granite Falls, King’s (10-1 league, 11-2 overall) won the Cascade Conference match 25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 25-23. Heather Stemler had 16 digs for Granite Falls (2-7, 2-10). Sara Mosiman had 19 kills and three blocks and Ashley Strecker had 28 assists for King’s.

Coupeville 3, Orcas Island 2: At Eastsound, the Wolves’ Mindy Horr led the way to the Northwest 1A/B League victory with 27 assists and 26-for-27 serving. Coupeville’s (6-0 league, 7-0 overall) Beth Mouw added nine kills and seven aces in the 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14 win over Orcas Island (4-2, 7-3).

La Conner 3, Darrington 0: At La Conner, Ashley Armstrong and Eliza Schillhammer pounded 10 kills each for Darrington (6-3 league, 9-3 overall) in the Northwest 1A/B League match. La Conner improved to 6-0, 7-2 with its 25-9, 17-25, 25-22, 25-14 win.

Lopez 3, Snohomish County Christian 0: At Lopez Island, Lopez (3-0 league, 6-4 overall) won the Northwest B match in straight sets, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16. Elyse Bunger led Snohomish County Christian (2-3, 3-9) with six assists.

Skykomish 3, Marysville-Pilchuck freshmen 1: At Skykomish, Amanda Zurger had 10 assists and Charlotte Brown had 12 kills for Skykomish (3-2, 10-3), which won the Northwest B League match, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16.
