Class AAA Tacoma Rainiers

The Rainiers’ roster has changed dramatically with the callups of Carlos Peguero, Mike Carp and, most recently, Dustin Ackley by the Mariners. The Rainiers entered the weekend having lost six of 10 games, leaving them 34-41 and tied for second in the Pacific C

oast League Pacific North Division, 10 games behind first-place Reno.

After Ackley was called up, the Mariners promoted second baseman Kyle Seager from Class AA Jackson, and he went 2-for-4 Thursday in his first game with the Rainiers.

Outfielder Mike Wilson was batting .328 with a .403 on-base percentage, .621 slugging percentage and 1.024 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. He’d hit eight home runs and driven in 24 runs.

Third baseman Alex Liddi was among two Mariners prospects (along with Class A Clinton pitcher James Paxton) chosen last week to the World roster for the All-Star Futures Game on July 10 in Phoenix. Liddi was batting .259/.325/.468/.793 with 13 homers and 46 RBI, but he’d struck out 97 times in 293 at-bats.

Right-hander Blake Beavan was 5-2 with a 2.04 ERA and has won his past three decisions.

Class AA Jackson (Tenn.) Generals

The Generals finished the first half of the Southern League season 38-32 and second in the North Division, five games behind first-place Tennessee.

Shortstop Nick Franklin, promoted from Class A High Desert, went 2-for-4 with a double Thursday in his first game with the Generals. Franklin batted .275/.356/.411/.767 with High Desert.

Outfielder Jake Shaffer entered the weekend batting .305/.346/.491/.837 with nine homers and 32 RBI, and shortstop Carlos Triunfel was batting .281/.339/.439/.777 with five homers and 21 RBI.

Right-hander Andrew Carraway, 5-0 and 2.41 in 15 games (eight starts), pitched a scoreless inning and was the winning pitcher for the North squad in last week’s Southern League All-Star game. Right-hander Jarrett Grube, 4-2 and 3.35 in 13 starts, was the All-Star starting pitcher and allowed three hits and two runs in one inning.

Class A High Desert (Calif.) Mavericks

First baseman Dennis Raben was second in the California League with 17 home runs and 68 RBI, and he entered the weekend batting .221/.373/.589/.962. Outfielder Vinnie Catricala was batting .355/.424/.583/.1.007 and ranked fifth in the league in batting average and sixth in OPS. He’d hit 14 homers with 58 RBI. Catricala went 0-for-1 last week in the California League-Carolina League All-Star game.

Right-hander Chris Sorce is 5-4, 4.11 in 14 starts. He also was on the All-Star roster but didn’t play. Third baseman Mario Martinez went 0-for-1 in the game.

The Mavericks were 32-28 and finished second in the South Division first-half standings, six games behind first-place Rancho Cucamonga.

Class A Clinton (Iowa) LumberKings

Left-hander James Paxton, 3-3 and 2.70, struck out two in a perfect inning last week in the Midwest League All-Star Game. Paxton, who has struck out 73 in 50 innings this season, will be on the World roster in the All-Star Futures Game on July 10.

Right-hander Taijuan Walker was 2-3, 2.40 with 56 strikeouts in 45 innings.

The LumberKings finished the first half 24-46 and last in the Western Division, 21 games behind first-place Burlington.

Rookie-level Pulaski (Va.) Mariners

Second baseman Dan Paolini, the Mariners’ 10th-round pick in the June draft, went 5-for-10 in three games for the Mariners, who opened the Appalachian League season 3-0 last week.

Rookie-level Peoria (Ariz.) Mariners

Outfielder Reginald Lawson went 7-for-14 with five RBI and outfielder Alfredo Morales 6-for-14 through the Mariners’ first three games of the Arizona League season, which started last week. The Mariners entered the weekend 1-2.

This report on the Mariners’ minor league teams appears every Sunday. It does not include the Class A Everett AquaSox, whose reports run daily in The Herald sports section.
