Sandra McLaughlin is in her first year as head coach of the Meadowdale boys tennis team after spending the past five years as the Mavericks’ girls junior-varsity coach. She inherits a squad that has some youth at the top of its lineup along with some experienced veterans.
“We’ve got a lot of talent,” McLaughlin said. “We have some strengths on our team, and we hope to see them continue to develop. This group has been a lot of fun to be around. They’re great at listening. They know I’m a new varsity coach, and they’ve been great to work with.”
Sophomores Ben Fahey and Daniel Tameishi will be the Mavericks’ top two singles players. Seniors Djelli Berisha and Ryan Johnson will make up Meadowdale’s No. 1 doubles team.
“(Ben and Daniel) have a strong court presence and energy,” McLaughlin said. “They’re very composed, and have great attitudes. (Djelli and Ryan) have a good partnership and communicate well with each other. They make sure both of their strengths are recognized and complement each other very well.”
