STANWOOD — An injury to a Stanwood High School football player Friday night caused officials to cancel the Spartans’ game against Meadowdale a minute into the second quarter.
The game will not be made up, Meadowdale assistant coach Josh Knowles said.
Knowles said his team led 14-7 when the Stanwood player was injured. Knowles said he did not see how the injury occurred and knew nothing about the player’s identity or condition.
Knowles said play was stopped while an ambulance and later a helicopter was called. Knowles said the player was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Stanwood School District spokesperson Kathy Britt said the player, a junior, walked off the field and told a trainer he was injured.
An administrative team made up of the high school principal, vice principal and athletic director were en route to the hospital to offer support to the family, Britt said.
