SEATTLE — Will Minice drove in what proved to be the winning run with an eighth-inning single as the Northwest Honkers defeated the Everett Merchants 4-3 in a Pacific International League game Tuesday night at the University of Washington.
Minice, from Bellevue College, hit the ball up the middle and past Merchants second baseman Alex Potts to score Dalton Gervas to break the tie.
“We came out flat tonight, and pretty much stayed flat, unfortunately,” Merchants coach Harold Pyatte said.
Everett (4-3) scored in the opening inning on a Sam Parris RBI single. The Merchants scored twice in the fourth against the Honkers (1-1) on Aaron Gates’ RBI double and Nate Mullins’ RBI single.
