Community roundup: Mill Creek Little League softball returns to regionals

The Mill Creek Little League softball team is headed back to regionals.

Mill Creek, the District 1 champions for 12-year-olds, dominated the state tournament held July 5-11 in Oak Harbor, going 4-0 and outscoring its opponents 64-3 en route to earning their second straight trip to San Bernadino for the West Regional Tournament, which begins Friday.

Last year at regionals Mill Creek went 3-0 in pool play before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

The members of the team are Heleina Ah-Loe, Rachel Andrzejewski, Annie Coe, Macie Dean, Deirdre Delgado, Avery Hare, Alexis Jolivette, Avery Olson, Alexis Sicairos, Lily Tarbox, Lauren Whitley, Simone Williams and Kalia Zellmer. The team is managed by Daryl Stevens.

Pierson to row at U-23 worlds

Oak Harbor’s Brooke Pierson, who rows collegiately at the University of Washington, is competing at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships this week in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Pierson, who will be a senior at Washington the coming school year, is representing the United States in the Women’s Pair division. She is rowing with the University of Michigan’s Kendall Brewer.

Silvertips street hockey winners

Team DJ claimed the championship in the Adult Competitive division at the Everett Silvertips Street Hockey Tournament held July 8 at Clark Park in Everett. Team DJ, which finished first in pool one, defeated pool two winner 4th Line Hockey for the title. The other winners were Fourth Liners in the Adult Recreational division and Metropolitians in the 14-under division.
