Mukilteo-based youth volleyball team qualifies for nationals

The Mukilteo-based Blue Royals Volleyball Academy’s U13 team is headed to nationals for the second straight year.

The Royals placed second in their division at the Puget Sound Volleyball Regional Championships, which were held last Saturday and Sunday in Centralia.

Competing in the U13 Emerald division, the Royals went 3-0 in pool play. Then in the knockout round they defeated the Capital Ice 25-13, 25-14 in the quarterfinals and Rainier U13 Summit 25-17, 17-25, 15-11 in the semifinals before falling 25-23, 25-12 to the DaKine Warriors in the championship match.

By finishing second the Royals qualified for the USA Volleyball National Championships, which take place June 21-24 in Dallas. The Royals will compete in the U13 Liberty Division. The Royals qualified for nationals at the U12 level last year, also finishing second at regionals.

The team consists of Petra Guirges, Kylee Reeves, Madeleine Dillingham, Brooklyn Dino, Lola Alfstad, Tatum Lewis, Lauren Phinney, Vera Miller, Kayla Hugo and Naia Atalig. It is coached by Dale Raymond and Casey Miller, with Dmitriy Tukan serving as trainer.
