Murphy downs Lakewood in 2 OTs

LAKEWOOD – Jon Jensen’s two free throws with six seconds remaining proved to be the difference Monday as the Archbishop Murphy boys basketball team edged Lakewood, 76-75, in double overtime at the Lakewood Christmas Tournament.

Archbishop Murphy plays Greybull (Wyo.) at 7 p.m. today in the championship game. Lakewood faces Chimacum in a consolation game at 4 p.m. Greybull beat Chimacum on Monday, 56-45.

Jensen’s two free throws gave the Wildcats a 76-73 advantage.

Lakewood’s Anthony Whederkehr made a lay-up and was fouled on the shot with 2 seconds remaining on the clock. His free throw bounced off the rim and the Cougars were unable to track down the ball in time to get off another shot.

Wes Taylor led the Wildcats with a game-high 26 points. Wes Reagan and Whederkehr paced the Cougars with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
