Murphy wins title rematch

DUVALL — This is a rivaly that just seems to get better and better.

In a rematch of last year’s Class 2A state title game, the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats prevailed over the host Cedarcrest Red Wolves 1-0 in a Cascade Conference game Thursday night.

“It was an exciting game to be a part of,” said first-year Archbishop Murphy coach Dick Henderson whose Wildcats were victorious by the same margin in last year’s state championship game. “Obviously someone is going home happy and someone is disappointed, but that’s sports.”

Henderson said Archbishop Murphy (2-0 in league, 4-0 overall) and Cedarcrest (1-1, 3-1) went toe-to-toe, with the turning point coming in the 62nd minute when Aliegh Mansfield took a pass from Caroline Brawner on the right attacking side and drilled a shot just inside the top of the far post from 30 yards out.
