Everett captain Ryan Murray has gone the distance with Team Canada. Murray was added to Canada’s roster for the Men’s World Championships and played in today’s opener as the Canadians beat Slovakia 3-2. Murray was originally brought along just to be a practice player. But injuries on defense thrust Murray onto the roster and into the lineup. According to a tweet from the Edmonton Sun’s Terry Jones, Murray is the second-youngest player ever to suit up for Canada at the World Championships, with only Paul Kariya being younger. Today he had 17:09 of ice time and was a plus-1. Not bad for an 18-year-old making his debut against adults.
Hockey Canada general manager Kevin Lowe said he wanted to bring two more NHL defensemen over, so it’s possible Murray won’t be playing much more. But no one can take this away from him.
