Nate Robinson has had a storied basketball career. Despite his diminutive 5-foot-9 height, the Seattle native managed to star at the University of Washington, get picked in the first round of the NBA draft, score nearly 7,000 points in a 11-year NBA career, and win the slam dunk contest three times. There were times when I watched him on the basketball court and thought I was watching a video game.
But can Robinson take his show to the NFL? He and the Seattle Seahawks intend to find out.
Robinson worked out with the Seahawks on Monday in advance of Seattle’s veteran minicamp, which begins Tuesday. Robinson actually attended the UW on a football scholarship and appeared in 13 games as a true freshman in 2002, starting the final six and making a key interception in Washington’s 29-26 victory in the Apple Cup. After that he shifted his focus to the basketball court.
But Robinson, with his NBA career winding down, believes he can make it in the NFL. He released the above video in March declaring his intention to give it a try at the age of 32.
Multiple outlets reported Monday that nothing was currently in the works with regards to the Seahawks actually signing Robinson, and Robinson’s height doesn’t exactly fit in with Seattle’s philosophy when it comes to cornerbacks. But it would be a heck of a story if Robinson is able to find a home in the NFL.
