The Lincoln (Neb.) JournalStar is reporting that Lincoln Stars defenseman Tyler Kieffer has left the team to join the Silvertips. The 18-year-old from Stillwater, Minn., is listed at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds. He had one assist and 18 penalty minutes in 19 games for the USHL team.
Interestingly, Lincoln is where former Tips goaltender David Reekie is currently playing. I wonder if Reekie gave Kieffer any guidance on the matter.
And if true, it’s interesting to consider what this means for the Tips. Everett could use an 89-born defenseman as Mike Alexander is the only other one in the organization, and the Tips traditionally have carried eight defensemen (they only have seven now). However, with the Jan. 10 trade deadline right around the corner, and with the Tips carrying three 19-year-old d-men who likely won’t all be back next season, one has to wonder whether a deal is in the works.
