District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has dismissed reality TV star Tila Tequila’s accusations that San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman choked her and threw her to the ground early Sunday.
Dumanis announced Friday afternoon there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Merriman committed a crime. Tequila had signed a citizen’s arrest warrant charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment, both felonies. “This case is now closed,” Dumanis said in a statement.
Brady: Gisele is pregnant
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has confirmed that he and his wife, model Gisele Bundchen, are expecting a baby. Brady announced the news in a television interview scheduled to air Sunday. Brady already has a child with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
Cromartie tweets again
Five weeks after drawing coach Norv Turner’s ire and a $2,500 fine for tweeting about lousy training camp food, San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie said he’s not being fined for posting a picture of the notes he was taking during a film session.
“Hell no,” Cromartie said Friday.
Cromartie posted a picture on his Twitter account Tuesday showing a notebook with some diagrams and the caption, “Man I’m in here going hard wit film studying. It’s been an hr and I’m going abt another 30 min.”
Turner said he’d seen the tweets. “We dealt with it,” he said.
The notes don’t look like they’d be too helpful, unless someone could interpret the cornerback’s scrawling and diagrams.
Court: Vikings can play
A federal appeals court on Friday cleared the way for Minnesota Vikings Pat Williams and Kevin Williams to play all season, despite the NFL’s attempts to suspend them for violating the league’s anti-doping policy.
“It’s a big sigh of relief to know we’re going to get to play the whole season,” Kevin Williams said.
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld earlier decisions from a federal district court — including one that says the remaining legal issues must be resolved in state court. The judge there has issued an injunction prohibiting the NFL from suspending the players, and he has said a state trial during the 2009 season was unlikely.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is troubled by the ruling.
