Tips goaltender Thomas Heemskerk received more praise from the San Jose Sharks as he won another game during his rookie tryout. Heemskerk, a non-drafted invitee, ended up backstopping two of San Jose’s three games, despite the presence of two drafted goalies on San Jose’s roster. One has to wonder whether Heemskerk will be invited to San Jose’s main camp, which would delay his return to Everett.
Meanwhile, Everett right wing Kellan Tochkin scored two goals in the Vancouver Canucks rookies’ opener. Tochkin went undrafted in June, but signed a free-agent deal with the Canucks in July.
No mention of Tyler Maxwell and Radko Gudas in the Los Angeles Kings rookies’ 6-1 loss to Phoenix. Rasmus Rissanen was with the Carolina Hurricanes rookies at the Traverse City tournament, but did not play because he hasn’t been cleared to return from his uppper-body injury yet. Cameron Abney’s Edmonton Oilers rookies get started tonight against Tochkin’s Canucks, and Byron Froese leaves tomorrow for Chicago’s main camp.
