Some of the biggest trout I’ve ever seen have come from Dragon Lake in British Columbia.
Through the years the lake has held several strains of trout and there’s an egg taking station on a creek at Dragon that produces most of the eggs used in the trout hatcheries around the province.
I’ve been fishing the lake for nearly 30 years and the only truly bad time I’ve had there was earlier this year when I showed up in early July and the lake was turning over. The fishing was so bad that we left and went somewhere else.
Not sure whether he was trying to rub it in or trying to make sure that I come back, but my friend Jerry Buron of Marysville, who loves fishing the lake himself, sent me this picture of a beautiful rainbow caught there on a chironomid earlier this year by an Olympia fly fisher.
What a beauty.
