Dodgers 7, Diamondbacks 2
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first National League team since 1900 to win their first 11 home games, overcoming an Arizona triple play to beat the Diamondbacks 7-2 Monday night with a homer and three RBIs from Manny Ramirez.
The defending NL West champions broke the previous league record for longest home winning streak to start a season, set by the 1918 New York Giants and equaled by the 1970 Chicago Cubs and 1983 Atlanta Braves — who were managed by current Dodgers skipper Joe Torre.
The major league mark is 12, set in 1911 by the Detroit Tigers.
Rockies 9, Padres 6
SAN DIEGO — Chris Iannetta hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning and the Colorado Rockies beat San Diego 9-6 on Monday night, sending the Padres to their sixth straight loss.
Glendon Rusch (2-0) went one inning for the win. Huston Street threw a perfect ninth for his third save in three chances.
The loss, San Diego’s 12th in 14 games, dropped the Padres into last place in the NL West, percentage points behind Colorado.
Adrian Gonzalez went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts for San Diego. It was the first time in 26 games this season that Gonzalez, tied for the NL lead with nine home runs, failed to reach base safely.
Marlins 3, Reds 2 (14 innings)
MIAMI — A throwing error by shortstop Paul Janish sent home the winning run in the 14th inning, and the Florida Marlins retained the NL East lead by beating the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 Monday night.
With runners at first and second and none out, Jorge Cantu grounded to first baseman Joey Votto, who threw to second for a forceout. Janish’s relay bounced past pitcher Daniel Herrera (0-1), who was covering first, and Ronny Paulino scored without a play.
Hanley Ramirez hit his third home run for the Marlins, who ended a three-game losing streak. The shortstop also made a leaping catch of Brandon Phillips’ liner with two on to end the eighth and keep the score 2-all.
The Marlins, who have been in first place since opening day, lead Philadelphia by a half-game.
Phillies 6, Cardinals 1
ST. LOUIS — Ryan Howard hit his seventh career grand slam, tying Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt for the Philadelphia Phillies record, in a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night that included a frightening injury to Rick Ankiel.
The Cardinals’ outfielder crashed headfirst into the fence after chasing down a line drive to the gap in the eighth inning. He was carted off the field strapped to a gurney and wearing a neck brace.
Joe Blanton (1-2) allowed a run in six innings for his first win since Sept. 26 while giving Philadelphia’s rotation only its fifth win this year. Jayson Werth added a two-run shot for the Phillies, who chased Kyle Lohse (3-1) with one out in the fifth for his shortest outing since Aug. 12, 2008.
Cubs 4, Giants 2
CHICAGO — Ryan Theriot hit another home run, Ryan Dempster pitched seven strong innings and the Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 on Monday night.
Theriot hit a two-run drive in the second inning for his third homer in the last four games. He entered the month with just seven career homers, never more than three in a season.
In Friday’s 8-6 win over Florida, Theriot ended a streak of 620 at-bats without a homer by hitting his first career grand slam.
Dempster (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits, struck out seven and walked two. Carlos Marmol worked the eighth and Kevin Gregg finished for his fourth save in five opportunities.
Jonathan Sanchez (1-2) gave up four runs and five hits over four-plus innings for the Giants.
Mets 6, Braves 4
ATLANTA — Carlos Beltran hit a pair of two-run homers, David Wright added a two-run shot of his own and the New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 Monday night to match their 2008 total for wins at Turner Field.
The Mets, who went 1-8 in Atlanta last season, improved to 30-63 at Turner Field since the start of the 1998 season.
Beltran, hitting .400, was 2 for 3 with a walk. The two homers gave him four this season.
John Maine (2-2) earned his second consecutive win despite setting a career high with six walks. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
Javier Vazquez (2-3) gave up a season-high six runs in 6 2-3 innings.
Chipper Jones homered for Atlanta.
Brewers 7, Pirates 4
PITTSBURGH — Rickie Weeks hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the ninth after a supposedly unavailable Ryan Braun tied it an inning earlier with a two-run double, helping the Brewers rally for a victory over the Pirates.
The Brewers scored six runs in the final two innings to earn their 16th consecutive victory over Pittsburgh. It’s the longest winning streak in the majors by one team against another since the Diamondbacks took 16 in a row from the Reds from 2001-03.
The Pirates led 3-1 in the eighth behind Paul Maholm, only to tie it when Braun — who wasn’t in Pittsburgh when the game began — doubled to right. Braun underwent an MRI exam in Milwaukee earlier in the day, flew to Pittsburgh, and was cleared to play.
Nationals 9, Astros 4
WASHINGTON — Adam Dunn delivered a two-run single during a five-run sixth inning, Ryan Zimmerman matched a career high with four hits and the Nationals rallied to beat the Astros.
Zimmerman’s first-inning single extended his Nationals-record hitting streak to 22 games. It’s the longest in the majors this season.
Elijah Dukes had three RBIs and Zimmerman drove in two runs for Washington, which won consecutive games for only the second time this season. The Nationals had a season-best 15 hits.
John Lannan (1-3) worked six innings, allowing four runs — three earned — on nine hits and two walks.
Kaz Matsui had two RBI and Carlos Lee added three hits for Houston.
