WR Aguilar won’t play against Stanford

SEATTLE — The depth of the University of Washington receiving corps will get tested this week.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian said after Thursday’s practice that sophomore wide receiver Devin Aguilar, who ranks fourth on the team with seven receptions, will not be available for the Stanford game because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee. Aguilar suffered the injury in Wednesday’s practice.

“It’s unfortunate because Devin, up to that point, has been playing well,” Sarkisian said. “I don’t think it will be a long injury. We expect to see him next week.”

Sarkisian added that sophomore Cody Bruns is likely to see more playing time in Aguilar’s place.

“Fortunately for us,” Sarkisian said, “we’ve got a really deep receiving corps.”

Heart ailment sidelines Noble

Sarkisian said that offensive lineman Craig Noble, who was once a prized recruit as a defensive tackle, might not play again because of a heart condition.

The condition was discovered earlier this week. Sarkisian said that Noble was feeling “lethargic” and had tests that revealed an “irregular beat in there and some different things.”

Noble, a redshirt freshman, should be able to live a normal life but might not be able to play football again, Sarkisian said.

“It’s unfortunate that he’s not going to be able to perform at least for quite some time,” Sarkisian said. “They’re going to do some further tests, but they did some tests. Something came up, and it looks like they’re going to have to make a decision here whether he can ever play again. We’ll find out more in the future.”

Short yardage

Wide receiver James Johnson, who aggravated a shoulder injury at Wednesday’s practice, sat out Thursday’s session but is expected to play against Stanford on Saturday. … Starting guard Senio Kelemete was also unavailable Thursday due to illness. Sarkisian expects him to be available for the game Saturday. … The coaches have addressed the poor snaps that plagued center Ryan Tolar in shotgun formation during the USC game. “We addressed it and worked on a few things, and he’s had a great week,” Sarkisian said Thursday.
