Anthon Steen at Holiday Sports in Burlington said local Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Brett Barkdull told him there would not be a chum retention season this year on the Skagit, as it looks like the run will consist of only about 50,000 fish — half the number needed for an opening. No local rivers have a chum fishery this fall/winter, but the Skagit had been a “possible.”
