Oak Harbor girls top Cascade

EVERETT – Freshman Heidi McNeill and Valerie Hartman combined for 33 points as Oak Harbor collected its third consecutive victory Friday, defeating Western Conference North foe Cascade 65-44.

“They played a good open court game,” Cascade coach Dave Roberts said. “They continued to hit shots. We’re not surprised at all they were that good.”

Oak Harbor, behind the steady play of Hartman who scored a game-high 17 points, outscored Cascade 17-10 in the third quarter to take a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. McNeill, who scored 16 points, helped Oak Harbor break open the game thanks to a 22-6 fourth-quarter run. Shirley Spears added 15 for Oak Harbor.

“We just lost control in the second half,” Roberts said. “It seemed like we would put up a shot and they would rebound and go the other way. By the end, it had gotten out of hand.”

LuAnn Anderson led Cascade with 14 points and Kristie Auckland followed with 10.
