Oliver, Acker named two-way all state

SEATTLE – Cascade’s J.P. Oliver and Arlington’s Tim Acker were the only two-way selections on the the Associated Press Washington state high school football 4A all-state team Thursday.

Oliver was named to the offense at running back and the defense at linebacker. Acker was chosen as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Other Western Conference players named to the 4A team included: Oak Harbor linebacker Gabe Vest, Mariner running back Raymond Fry, Stanwood defensive back Aaron Boehme, Snohomish offensive lineman Jeff Washburn and Jackson all-purpose player Kawika Emsley-Pai.

Shorecrest’s Jesse Hoffman was named to the 3A offense as a running back.

In Class 2A, four Archbishop Murphy players were selected. Stan Smith was named to the offense at running back. Ben Fritsch was named the placekicker. Chris Hoerauf was chosen on the defensive line. And Shiloh Keo was selected at defensive back.

Coupeville’s Mike Bagby was named to the 1A team at defensive back,

Meanwhile, Jake Locker’s already impressive football resume just got a bit longer.

After directing Ferndale to an undefeated season and the Class 3A state championship, Locker was named player of the year.

Locker was a nearly unanimous pick, receiving all but two votes. A year after losing to nationally ranked Bellevue in the title game, Locker, who played quarterback and defensive back, led the Golden Eagles through a flawless regular season. Their defense gave up more than 20 points only once, while averaging 56 points per game on offense.

Locker finished his senior season with 1,603 yards passing and 27 touchdowns despite averaging less than nine pass attempts per game. He also rushed for 1,338 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Locker, who has committed to Washington, was the Class 3A player of the year and selected as an all-state defensive back.

Other players of the year included Jason Harris of Skyline in Class 4A, Joe Halahuni of Orting in Class 2A, Jeff Jack of Royal in Class 1A, Eric Everett of Reardan in Class B-11 and Andrew Jefferson of Lummi and Jeff Bafus of LaCrosse-Washtucna in Class B-8.
