Oregon champs dump Panthers

AUBURN – The champs came to play at the Auburn Riverside Tournament .

Two-time Oregon 4A state champion Southridge of Beaverton, Ore., played Snohomish in the championship game of the White Division and defeated the Panthers 55-40 Saturday.

“They’re the real deal,” Snohomish girls head coach Ken Roberts said of the Skyhawks, who were the 10th-ranked team in the nation last year.

The Panthers went toe-to-toe with Southridge, trailing by only one point going into halftime.

Snohomish stayed within four until the Skyhawks went on a 12-0 run in the last two minutes of the third quarter to pull away for good.

“You have to play perfect to stay with this team,” Roberts said, “and we didn’t play perfect the whole game.”

Snohomish’s Katie Benson led all scorers with 19 points and teammate Karley Lampman added 11 points for the Panthers.
