Dennis Broughton of Snohomish shared these photos from a recent trip to Isaac’s Lake Ranch, a pay lake near Coulee City in Eastern Washington.
He said that in one case, the fish got away because it was caught, then released.
In the other, it didn’t because it was dinner for an Osprey.
I was surprised that the Osprey was able to make off with a fish that large, and so was Broughton. He estimated the fish at four pounds.
I Googled Osprey weight and the first site that came up talked about Osprey weighing four pounds.
Can you imagine flying off with something that was the equivalent of your own weight? I can’t even carry my body weight on land.
Broughton said he makes a trip to Isaac’s twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
He said that there were a lot of fish to catch this fall, all from 20 to 26 inches long. He caught some on dry flies during a hatch, but most took leech or woolley bugger patterns.
