Paxman leads Red Wolves over King’s

SHORELINE — Cedarcrest running back Brady Paxman ran for two touchdowns late in the first half to help the Red Wolves overcome a slow start against winless King’s in a 34-12 victory Saturday night.

The Knights defense came up with two first-half turnovers: an interception by Sean Brugger and a fumble recovery by Elliot Bowman.

But Cedarcrest quarterback Tommy Edwards threw three touchdown passes in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

King’s quarterback Kevin Tranter was 15-for-35 for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

Lyle 14, Highland Christian Prep 12: At Ellensburg, Vince Kurtzenacher caught and threw for a touchdown to pace Highland Christian Prep in the non-league loss. Stormee Brown threw for a TD, recorded nine tackles and caused two fumbles, and Kurtzenacher added seven tackles for Highland Christian.

Mount Vernon Invitational: At Mount Vernon, Kennedy defeated Mount Vernon 2-0 in the championship match to claim the Invitational title. Kennedy used set scores of 25-22, 25-22 to hold off the Bulldogs. Lynden Christian and La Conner ended in a tie for third place as Oak Harbor finish fifth.
