EVERETT – The Cascade Bruins used four pins to ride out a hard-fought 36-20 home victory over Marysville-Pilchuck in a Western Conference 4A meet Thursday night.

In the hotly-contested 171-pound bout, Cascade’s Chris Buchan was clinging to a 3-2 advantage over M-P’s Peter Swardz before getting a pin at 1:34 of the third round.

“He just caught him on his back and pinned him,” Cascade coach Sherm Iverson said.

Another close battle occurred at 130 where M-P’s Marc Ramey used a takedown in the closing seconds to defeat Cascade’s Roger Garcia by a 9-7 count.

“That was a great match,” Iverson said.

The Bruins Matt Harvey remained unbeaten in the young season with a 9-3 decision over Patrick Ryan in the 112-pound bout.

Defending heavyweight state champion Israel Silva of M-P made his season debut with an 11-2 decision over Cascade’s Jesse Calderon.

“Jesse always tries to get up for that match and Israel did a good job of controlling him,” Iverson said.
