EVERETT — From start to finish it was a clinic.
“We were running on all cylinders,” Shorewood head coach Wyatt Tonkin said. Not many fans at Everett Memorial Stadium would likely disagree.
Shorewood (21-2 overall) opened up with an eight-run first inning, followed it up with seven more in the third and cruised to a 18-0, five-inning win over Meadowdale in the 3A District 1 championship game Saturday.
Blake Snell started for the Thunderbirds and pitched 41/3 shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. The nine strikeouts helped him pass 100 for the season.
Snell also battesd 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Teammate Trevor Mitsui went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI and Christian Heideger added three more RBI.
“We came so close last year that the kids really kept their focus and kept working hard, not getting complacent or too revved up to the point where we were not having fun,” said Tonkin. “They’ve been focused on this goal all season. Hopefully we can continue on.”
Shorewood earned the No. 1 seed to the 3A regional Saturday in Mount Vernon.
