MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Mountlake Terrace’s Ryan Shannon isn’t hogging the ball and that’s just the way Hawks coach Nalin Sood likes it.
Shannon scored 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the floor to lead Terrace to run away from Lynnwood 76-32 in the Wesco 3A opener for both teams Saturday night.
“Ryan, in two games hasn’t put up any bad shots,” Sood said. “He also had some good passes and double-digit rebounds.”
Shannon pulled down 15 rebounds as the Hawks pushed the Royals around on the boards for most of the night.
After leading the Hawks in scoring in the team’s opener against Inglemoor, Marquis Armstead took a back seat to Shannon Saturday with 10 points. Sood said that he expects the diversity of scorers should continue as the season progresses.
“I hope that we are a team that has multiple guys that can score,” the Hawks coach said.
Overall, it was a very impressive win for Terrace, which is one of the favorites to compete for the Wesco 3A crown, but Sood still said his team hasn’t fully gotten its basketball legs underneath it.
“We saw some things we can work on and get better at, but there’s obviously some positives tonight,” he said.
Norde Jordan lead the way for Lynnwood with 13 points.
