LA CONNER — Darrington can do no worse than a tie for first place after defeating La Conner 61-59 Friday in a double-overtime Northwest 1A/2B game.

“It seems like every time Darrington and La Conner play, something is on the line,” Darrington head coach Kevin Ashe said.

On Friday it was first place.

“It was a hard fought game between two rivals, both teams played their hearts out,” Ashe said. “We feel good, but also fortunate.”

The win capped a team goal that Darrington had since the beginning of the season, to be the league’s No. 1 2B seed. Friday Harbor, a 1A school, can earn a share of the league title with a win today over Shoreline Christian.

“They really wanted this, they talked about it all year and tonight they finished it,” Ashe said.

Darrington senior Cory Hoveskland led all scores with 23 points. His only other senior counterpart Mike Parris added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Tyler Buchanan had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

La Conner was led by Erik Lindeman with 19 points.
