Prep boys golf: 4A Northwest District 1 Championships (Day 2)

EVERETT — Rudy Caparas used the much-improved weather conditions to shoot a 71 and take four strokes off of his Day 1 score to shoot an overall 146 on his way to first place in the 4A Northwest District 1 Championships at Legion Memorial Golf Course on Tuesday.

“The weather definitely had to do with how he shot today,” said Lynnwood head coach Alex Pfeiffer on Caparas’ Day 2 performance. “The conditions were better today obviously. He thrives on situations where he can approve and beat the best. I think he is playing the best he has all year. I think he’s riding high confidence wise and we will wait and see. He has a great shot (at winning state).”

Going into Tuesday Caparas held a four-stroke lead over defending state champ, Jackson’s Kyle Cornett, a player that Pfeiffer admits Caparas focused on going into the district championships.

“(Wesco) is a tough league,” Pfeiffer said. “Rudy knew going into today that he had to look at Kyle and anyone from Kamiak (the defending state team champs) and keep and eye out for Anthony Allen from Arlington.”

Allen finished three strokes back of Caparas with an overall score of 149. Kamiak’s Chris Hatch shot a 150 over the two days to round out the top three. shoot a
