SUMNER — After Archbishop Murphy took a 1-0 lead right before halftime, the Prosser Mustangs replied with two unanswered goals for a 2-1 victory, ending the Wildcats’ season with a fourth-place finish in the 2A state boys soccer playoffs at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium.
Murphy’s Sean Ryan sent in a corner kick, and freshman Aiden Huggins lined a header into the Mustangs’ goal with five seconds remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. It was Huggins’ third goal of the season, and second of the state tournament.
Prosser replied with two goals in the second half, scoring in the 60th and 72nd minute.
Fernandez started all of Murphy’s seniors, and all 20 team members had playing time.
“It was a team effort this season and in this game and we can hold our heads high,” Fernandez added.
“There is just a lot of pride on the team and we had an outstanding season. We have a good returning class next season and look forward to returning to the final four.”
