BOTHELL — As a contender to repeat as 3A boys soccer state champion, Glacier Peak often sees its opponents implement conservative game plans to keep the score respectable.
Facing Wesco 3A opponent Meadowdale (1-3 league, 2-3 overall), the Grizzlies managed just one goal — a David Linney shot in the 57th minute — to earn a 1-0 victory and remain undefeated (3-0, 5-0).
“They tried to pack it in on us,” Glacier Peak head coach Shannon Murray said of Meadowdale’s defensive strategy.
For most of the game it worked. But, halfway through the second half, Linney received a throw-in from Jeff Stenberg along the right side about 25 yards out and delivered a left-footed strike that gave the Grizzlies all the scoring they would need.
Andrew Weakley played the entire game in goal for the Grizzlies.
