ARLINGTON — Kendal Kippen and Ricky Rosales each scored a goal to lead Lakewood past South Whidbey in a Cascade Conference match.
Kippen scored Lakewood’s first goal in the 34th minute off an assist from Javier Miramontes. Kippen then assisted on a Rosales’ goal in the 48th minute as the Cougars handed the Falcons their first league loss.
Kippen, normally a starting defender, scored his goal after running past the Falcons’ outside midfielder and catching a deflection off a Rosales kick and knocking it in to give Lakewood the early 1-0 lead that would turn out to be enough due to Lakewood’s stout defense.
“This was a really good game,” said Cougars head coach Bryce Barker. “Both teams did a really good job of pressing back-and-forth. It was a pretty hard fought defensive battle.”
