Prep boys swimming: 2A State Meet

FEDERAL WAY — The Archbishop Murphy boys swim team finished first in eight events on the first day of the 2A State Swim and Dive Championships at the King County Aquatics Center.

Overall, the Wildcats advanced 11 in individual events, as well as two relay teams to Saturday’s A finals.

Alec Barnard won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.92 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 52.03. His brother, Austin Barnard, finished first in the 500 freestyle, with Wildcat teammate Stephen Boden in second, and also placed second in the 200 freestyle. Boden won his own solo event, the 200 individual medley, and, with the two Barnards, formed the core of Murphys’ winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Wildcat senior Hunter Cosgrove also took first in the 100 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke.

Steve Kane and Elliott Forde finished first and second in diving, with Kane scoring 167.15 points and Forde 162.05. Murphy diver Rory Krueger also advanced to the finals.
