PREP ROUNDUP: Doubles wins help Arlington beat Marysville-Pilchuck

ARLINGTON — With the exception of undefeated Everett, the Wesco North boys tennis dual meet season has been unusually competitive this fall. Six of the league’s nine teams entered play Wednesday within three victories of one another.

In a meet between two of those teams, Arlington edged Marysville-Pilchuck 4-3 to pull into a tie with the Tomahawks at 6-4.

“One nice thing this year is there’s a lot of parity,” Arlington coach Sean Cunningham said. “There are going to be a lot of 4-3 matches the rest of the way.

“We’ve been able hang tough this year, which is an unusual position for us. It’s been kind of fun. You’re able to go out there thinking you can win every time, unless your playing Everett.”

Cunningham said Wednesday’s meet hinged on the No. 2 doubles match between Arlington’s Josiah Aylesworth and David Taft-Farren and M-P’s Andrew VanderStoep and Chris Rasmussen.

“We were down 5-2 in the second set and won the last five games (to finish off a 6-3, 7-5 victory),” Cunningham said.
