Prep football: Mountlake Terrace 66, Lynnwood 13

EDMONDS — With the distractions of homecoming, senior night and a rivalry game all looming over Mountlake Terrace’s matchup with Lynnwood on Friday night, Hawks coach Tony Umayam was wary of a letdown following Terrace’s comeback win over Glacier Peak last Friday that clinched a playoff spot.

Umayam can rest easy. His team beat the Royals in every phase of the game in a 66-13 thumping at Edmonds Stadium.

Ryan Lacasse ran for 155 yards on just eight carries and scored five touchdowns, and backfield mate Malcolm Johnson also eclipsed the century mark (124 yards) against Lynnwood.

“Our players really came out to play tonight,” Umayam said. “It didn’t take a ton to turn them on. They’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time.”

The Hawks scored touchdowns on their first eight possessions and racked up 385 rushing yards against the Lynnwood defense. Mountlake Terrace faced just four third downs all night.

“Our offense was really a machine that set the tone in this game,” Umayam said. “Our offensive coordinator put a nice game plan together, and the offense did a nice job of doing what we want to do.”

Lynnwood scored a passing touchdown late in third quarter and another in the fourth, but quarterback Justin Cachopo was held to 112 yards passing by Terrace’s defense, which created six turnovers.

“We came out and were opportunistic and running to the football,” Umayam said. “We knew that Cachopo was one of the leading passers in the league, so we knew that we had to put some pressure on him.”
