Prep girls basketball: Lakewood 46, Coupeville 45

MARYSVILLE — Lakewood’s Caitlyn Darrah went from goat to hero in less than 10 seconds.

The senior guard fouled Coupeville’s Katie Smith with 11 seconds to play in the Cascade Conference game and Smith hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to give Coupeville a 45-43 lead, seemingly dashing the Cougars’ hopes of notching their first win of the season.

But Darrah redeemed herself after a pair of passes set her up alone on the wing. She knocked down a 3-pointer off the glass with 3.4 seconds to play to give Lakewood a 46-45 lead.

On Coupeville’s ensuing possession, Darrah had a deflection that ended the Wolves’ threat and sealed Lakewood’s victory.

Smith scored a team-high 15 points for the Wolves and Cassidi Rosenkrance had 11. Darrah’s four 3s and 15 points led the Cougars, while Kaylee Diggs added 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for Lakewood.
