Prep hot tickets for 9/26-9/30

Here are four local prep matchups to keep an eye on this week:

1. Girls soccer: Lynnwood at Everett, 7 p.m. Tuesday. Neither team was mentioned much before the season as a possible Wesco 3A contender, but the Royals have a 5-1 record and the Seagulls have won their first seven games. Everett has scored 24 goals in its seven games. Lynnwood has been carried by forward Cassidy O’Dell, who has scored seven goals in the team’s past three games and has 10 of the Royals’ 17 goals this season.

2. Cross country: Arlington, Edmonds-Woodway, Shorewood at Jackson, 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. There will be talent all over the place at this meet, in particular E-W’s powerhouse girls squad and Jackson’s deep boys team. Runner to watch: Thunderbirds senior Ellie Shoop, who won the 5,000-meter girls race at Wednesday’s Hamlin Park meet in a time of 20 minutes, 57.3 seconds.

3. Boys tennis: Lake Stevens at Mariner, 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Last season the Vikings won six matches, but they’ve already recorded seven wins so far this season. They’ve been led by Palmer Hodges, their top singles player, who’s posted a 6-2 record.

4. Volleyball: Stanwood at Edmonds-Woodway, 7 p.m. Thursday. Both teams are off to good starts this season. The Warriors are 4-1, while the Spartans are 3-1. Player to watch: Stanwood setter Saylor Anderson, a key part of the Spartans’ offense. She recorded 51 assists during the team’s two matches last week.
