Here are four local prep matchups worth watching this week:
Girls soccer: Arlington at Stanwood, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Eagles (1-3-1) are the defending Wesco 3A champions, but the Spartans (2-2-0) could be a threat to take the crown from them this fall. Interestingly, this already is the second matchup of the season between the teams. Arlington beat Stanwood 2-0 on Sept. 12.
Volleyball: Edmonds-Woodway at Snohomish, 7 p.m. Thursday. These teams expect to finish in the top half of the Wesco 3A standings. Natalie Stern (16 kills, 13 digs) is off to a strong start for Snohomish (2-0), while Edmonds-Woodway (2-1) has been led by Sandra Yang (46 kills).
Boys tennis: Shorecrest at Glacier Peak, 3:30 p.m. Friday. The Scots (3-2) should be one of the better teams in the Wesco 3A South, while the Grizzlies should be in the mix in Wesco 4A after their 4-0 start. The No. 1 singles match between Faiz Khan of Shorecrest and Kyle Shaff of Glacier Peak should be fun to watch.
Girls swimming and diving: Mukilteo Invite, 9 a.m. Saturday. One of the bigger annual girls swimming meets in the area features Cascade, Lake Stevens, Marysville Getchell, Marysville Pilchuck and Kamiak. Swimmer to watch: The Chargers’ Bindi Pedersen, who won the 200 individual medley event Thursday in a meet against Marysville Pilchuck and Archbishop Murphy with a time of 2 minutes, 13.01 seconds.
