Prep Roundup: Arlington girls triumph at Randall Relays

ARLINGTON — Arlington’s Jasmine Redix, a junior sprinter for the Eagles girls track and field team, lost the 100-meter dash by one-hundredth of a second Saturday at the Chuck Randall Relays at Arlington High School, but the Eagles earned a 1-2 finish in the shot put and the top spot in the triple jump for the overall team win.

Marissa Elgarico, a senior, and freshman Marissa Swegle claimed the top two spots in the girls shot put event for Arlington, which beat out Burlington-Edison by 13 points for the win.

Elgarico’s winning toss measured 35-feet, 43/4 inches, more than a full foot farther than Swegle (34 feet, 21/2 inches).

Glacier Peak claimed fourth place overall with 79.46 points, riding the back of freshman Amy Eloise-Neale’s win in the 1,600 meters and a team win in the distance medley.

Cascade placed sixth and Mountlake Terrace took eighth to round out the girls competition.

Melissa Webb, an Arlington junior, won the triple jump with a distance of 32-feet, 10 inches.

On the boys side, Arlington placed third (87.9), followed by Cascade in fourth (81.95), Glacier Peak in sixth (56.96) and Mountlake Terrace in seventh (49.97).

Mount Vernon won the boys competition by two points over Burlington-Edison, 93-91.

Cascade senior Dylan Hopper won the 1,600 meter run by more than four seconds. Hopper finished in 4 minutes, 30.32 seconds.

Griffin Ginnis, a multi-sport junior for Arlington, won the long jump with a distance of 20 1/2-feet and placed second in the triple jump (39-feet, 9 inches). Tay’lor Eubanks of Cascade won the triple jump (43-feet, 11 inches).

Another top Arlington finisher, sophomore Maxim Bryson, won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.58 seconds.

Ram Relays: At Yakima, Monroe’s Bryce Ingersoll won the boys shot put Saturday at the Ram Relays in Yakima. Ingersoll, a senior, won with a distance of 48-feet, 11.5 inches, more than two-and-a-half feet farther than the runner up. Ingersoll also placed third in the discus event. Jordan Moses, a Monroe senior, won the pole vault with a height of 12-feet, six inches. Randi Armstrong took fifth place for Monroe in the girls high jump.

Baseball

Bothell 12, Mariner 2: At Bothell, Brian McAfee batted 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI for Bothell in a non-conference win. Michael Marriott batted 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Cougars. Gene Watson added a solo home run in the win. Daylen Degamo hit a two-run home run for Mariner.

Boys soccer

Everett 8, Oak Harbor 0: At Everett, Garret Robinson scored a hat-trick and assisted on two more goals for Everett in a Wesco North win. Eric Ofori, Christian Sanchez and Stefan Mueller assisted on Robinson’s goals. Sanchez scored once, Ofori twice for Everett (1-1 league, 1-1 overall). Dave Gebert (Chaz Jenkins assist) and Jenkins scored for Everett. Oak Harbor’s (0-3, 0-3) goalkeeper was not reported. Tanner Jelinek earned the shutout for Everett.

Snohomish 4, Arlington 0: At Snohomish, Brendon Gundry scored twice in the first 20 minutes to help Snohomish capture a Wesco North win. Carson Pingrey assisted on Gundry’s goals in the fourth and 20th minute. Reilly Cross (Mackenzie Nutt, Connor Barton assists) made the score 3-0 before halftime. Daryn English (Cross assist) scored for Snohomish (3-0 league, 3-0 overall) in the 55th minute. Cody Melander and Levi Quinn earned the shutout in goal for the Panthers. Cory Ferris was the goalkeeper for Arlington (2-1, 2-1).

Cascade 3, Stanwood 1: At Stanwood, Tyler Codiga scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the 25th minute for Cascade in a Wesco North game. Codiga added his second goal in the 85th minute. Stephen Van tied the score at 1-1 for Cascade with a goal in the 20th minute. Mickey Brown scored early for Stanwood (2-1 league, 2-1 overall). Dalton Alumbaugh was the goalkeeper for Stanwood. Cory Evans and Brian Janner split time in goal for Cascade (1-2, 1-2).

Cascade (Leavenworth) 2, Sultan 0: At Leavenworth, Cascade (Leavenworth) got two second-half goals in a non-conference win over Sultan. Christian Rivas scored in the 48th minute and Eduardo Melendez added a goal in the 68th minute for the Kodiaks (2-0 overall). Clayton Knoles was the goalkeeper for Sultan (0-2). Juvenal Avila earned the shutout for Cascade.

Sequim 1, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Nick Camporini gave Sequim a non-conference win with a penalty kick in the 30th minute. Evan Coleman took the loss in goal for Coupeville (0-1 overall). John Textor recorded the shutout for Sequim (3-0).
