Archbishop Murphy claims Wesco South volleyball title

VOLLEYBALL

EDMONDS — Archbishop Murphy, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, clinched Wesco 3A/2a South title with a 3-0 sweep of Edmonds-Woodway, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20. Archbishop Murphy, which also defeated Edmonds-Woodway on Oct. 9, is the only team to beat the Warriors this year. Teuila Halalilo helped the Wildcats finish undefeated in league this year (12-0 league, 15-1 overall) with 10 kills, 14 assists and five digs. Laura Esping tallied eight kills, 19 assists two aces and five digs, while Tatum Gill added seven kills, three aces and 14 digs. Addy Pontak led the Warriors (13-2, 8-2) with nine digs. The Wildcats will host a District 1 2A tournament game on Nov. 4. The Warriors begin the District 1 3A tournament on Nov. 12 with a home game.

Wesco 3A/2A North

Monroe 3, Marysville Getchell 0

MARYSVILLE — Shannara Peebles’ 14 kills, 11 digs and two aces paced the Bearcats (10-5 overall, 5-4 league) to victory by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-11. Alexis Walker added 20 assists, 11 digs and two aces, and Maddie Walker tallied 15 digs. The Bearcats will host a District 1 3A tournament game on Nov. 7. The Chargers, who finished the season 2-14, 0-9, were led by Ekjot Bhandal’s 14 kills, Quinn Gleason’s 23 digs and Katrina Gutenkauf’s 20 assists.

Everett 3, Marysville Pilchuck 2

MARYSVILLE — The Seagulls improved to 5-5 in league and 7-8 overall, and will host a District 1 3A tournament game on Nov. 7. The Tommies (2-8, 5-10) will pay in a District 1 2A tournament play-in game against Bellingham on Nov. 2.

Northwest 2B/1B

Darrington 3, Concrete 0

DARRINGTON — Claire Wright led the seventh-ranked Loggers to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-9 victory with 17 kills and 16 digs. Sophie Ross was 20-for-20 serving and added six kills. Avery Brown added 21 digs while Abigail Cochran and Lucy Stewart each chipped in with four kills as Darrington improved to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in league. Darrington was to host a District 1 1B tournament game on Wednesday.

MARYSVILLE — The Tomahawks improved to 4-12 overall and will face top-seeded Lynden on Thursday. Lakewood finished the season with an 0-18 record.
