SHORELINE — Timberwolves freshman starter Sophia Frost struck out 10, while only giving up four hits and walking one to lead Jackson defeated Shorecrest 4-1 in a nonleague game on Friday night.
Frost, earning her third victory on the mound this season, helped herself out at the plate as well, batting 2-for-4 with two singles.
“(Sophia) was on today,” said Timberwolves’ head coach Kyle Peacocke. “There were a couple situations early in the game that she was able to get out of. She was definitely hitting her spots. She had command of all of her pitches today … it was definitely the best she’s pitched all year.”
Adding to Frost’s performance was senior shortstop Jessica Roy, who led off the top of the sixth inning with her fourth home run to cushion the Jackson lead. Roy has homered in each of the Timberwolves’ first four games so far.
“Being the only senior, Jessica is just somebody that’s been there,” said Peacocke in regards to Roy’s perfomance in clutch situations. “She’s pretty much leading through her performance.”
