Here are Tuesday’s prep stars of the night:
Ben Spores and Ben Nichols, Arlington boys tennis
Spores, a senior, and Nichols, a junior, beat Edmonds-Woodway’s Drew Boland and Alec Matulka 6-4, 6-3 Tuesday in the third/fourth place match at the 3A District 1 Tournament. In front of the home crowd at Arlington Hign School, Spores and Nichols became the first boys from the Eagles’ program to reach a state tournament, according to coach Ben Mendro.
Shelby Lund, Stanwood girls soccer
Lund, a junior midfielder, scored in double overtime to lift the Spartans to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Marysville Pilchuck in a Wesco 3A match. Stanwood trailed 2-0 before rallying to force extra time, and Lund’s goal completed the comeback.
Emma Leggett, South Whidbey volleyball
Leggett, a senior outside hitter, recorded 26 kills and eight digs to lift the Falcons to a four-set victory over Cedar Park Christian in a North Sound Conference clash.
