4A STATE TOURNAMENT

Lake Stevens claims fourth

YAKIMA — The Vikings (19-5) finished fourth in the state tournament for the second year in a row after losing a 3-2 heartbreaker to No. 1 Curtis in their semifinal matchup to put them out of title contention (25-22, 15-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-17). The five-set thriller against the top-ranked team in the tournament was a far cry from their Lake Stevens’ season-opener against Curtis, where the Vikings lost 3-0.

Head coach Kyle Hoglund credited his team’s work ethic and refusal to quit for the inspired semifinal performance.

“It’s just a testimony to the girls and how much they put in the time and work,” said Hoglund of his fourth-seeded team. “They played their hearts out and to go to a fifth set and lose 17-15 in the fifth is an amazing feat against the number-one-seeded team. I’m just so proud of what they did and what they accomplished.”

Lake Stevens would go on to lose to Wenatchee in the ensuing third-place game by set scores of 19-25, 19-25 and 21-25.

Arlington comes up short of top-eight finish

YAKIMA — The 16th-seeded Eagles lost in a sweep to 13th-seeded Tahoma (16-8) with a spot in the seventh-place game on the line (19-25, 21-25, 17-25). Arlington finished their first trip to state as a 4A school at 1-2 and ended the season with a 16-8 record.

3A STATE TOURNAMENT

Lynnwood takes eighth place

YAKIMA — The ninth-seeded Royals (15-8) secured an eighth-place finish at the state tournament Saturday. Lynnwood first beat Snohomish (14-8) 3-1 by set scores of 25-9, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-9 to start the day, but fell to Bellevue (17-8) in five sets in the seventh-place game (25-23, 15-25, 24-26, 25-22, 9-15). The finish marked the Royals’ second-straight top-eight performance at state, as they took third in last year’s tournament.

Snohomish goes 1-2 in state tournament

YAKIMA — The 12th-seeded Panthers (14-8) saw their season come to an end after losing 3-1 to a familiar foe in Lynnwood (9-25, 25-23, 19-25, 9-25). The run marked Snohomish’s first state qualification since 2022.
