QB leads Arlington

EVERETT – Senior quarterback Kenny Gunter ran for three touchdowns Friday night to lead the Arlington Eagles to a 28-7 victory over Wesco North opponent Cascade at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The victory, however, wasn’t enough to get the Eagles (6-2 league, 7-2 overall), into the postseason. Arlington, which won its first six games, would’ve earned a Class 4A playoff berth with an Oak Harbor loss. The Wildcats defeated Marysville-Pilchuck 27-26 in double overtime.

Cascade finished the season 3-5 in league and 4-5 overall.

After giving up a 77-yard touchdown run to Cascade running back J.P. Oliver, the Eagles answered with four unanswered touchdowns.

Gunter ran 12 yards for his first touchdown with 11:53 remaining in the second quarter to tie the score at 7.

Three series later, Gunter connected on three passes for 20 yards to set up Arlington on Cascade’s 8-yard line. Running back Jake Webb capped off the 12-play, 73-yard drive on a 7-yard run, which gave Arlington a 14-7 lead.

Arlington converted on a Cascade turnover, a fumble recovery by Tim Acker inside the Cascade 15-yard line. Gunter scored three plays later, on a 3-yard touchdown run. Gunter tacked on his third touchdown with 53 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Arlington its 28-7 lead.
