A lot less news came from today’s practice than yesterday’s but still a few things worth pointing out.

Cornerback Walter Thurmond practiced for the second straight day after missing more than three weeks of action with an ankle injury. He said he feels good, but does not know if he’ll play in Saturday’s game: “It’s still up in the air right now. We’ll see how these next couple of days go and make a decision then.”

Pete Carroll indicated yesterday that he is planning on getting Thurmond some playing time.

Linebacker Aaron Curry returned to action after missing Tuesday’s practice with a sore knee. Seattle’s other two starting linebackers, Leroy Hill and David Hawthorne, remained out for a second straight day, however, also with knee injuries. Carroll didn’t meet with the media today, however he did tell 710 ESPN Seattle that Hawthorne has a knee strain, and that Hill’s injury is an old issue, but that he should be OK.

C/G Mike Gibson also returned to action after sitting out yesterday with an undisclosed injury. S Kam Chancellor (foot) also missed a second straight day.

Rookie cornerback Byron Maxwell, a sixth-round pick, turned in the play of the day, turning what looked like a completed pass to Kris Durham into an interception. When it looked like Durham was going to bring in a pass that was already in his hands, Maxwell popped the ball loose, then found the loose ball in the air, hauling in in before sprinting down the sideline. Maxwell is one of many young players in what is one of the Seahawks’ tightest roster battles. Seattle will likely keep nine, possibly 10 defensive backs, and figuring out who those will be is very tough right now.

It’s really competitive,” defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said. “Hopefully these last two preseason games, we can come to a conclusion, but it’s so competitive. Every day someone else is having a big day. It’s going to be a battle to the end.”
