Silvertips defenseman Rasmus Rissanen has signed with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. Rissanen, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2009 NHL draft by the Hurricanes, inked a three-year entry-level deal today. He’ll be joining Carolina’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, for the remainder of the season, though he said he didn’t know whether he would actually get into any games.
This is great news for Rissanen, who will now be embarking on his professional career. It also decreases the chances of Rissanen returning to Everett next season as an overager.
One other note. Tips general manager Doug Soetaert is taking to the airwaves for a half-hour interview with Everett broadcaster Jon Rosen. That interview takes place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on KRKO.
