The Game
It seemed like the Everett Silvertips were going to do it again. They erased a 2-1 deficit to take a 3-2 lead seven minutes into the final period and were poised to salvage their longest road trip of the year with two wins.
Instead the Kootenay Ice scored three unanswered goals to send the Tips to a 5-3 defeat. This loss comes on the heels of Friday’s come-from-behind 4-3 win at Lethbridge.
Once again the Tips generated plenty of chances as they tallied 40 shots. Yet they’ll be kicking themselves for converting on just one of five power-play chances in the second period including a four-minute high sticking double minor. Plenty of credit needs to go to Kootenay goaltender Bailey Brkin who saved 37 of Everett’s 40 shots.
One guy who appears to be heating up is Riley Sutter. The draft-eligible forward had two goals Friday and another Saturday as he has taken over the team lead with seven. Patrick Bajkov added his fourth goal of the season Saturday and leads Everett with 15 points in 11 games.
In sum, the Tips finished 2-4 against the Central Division and 3-6 in their nine games away from Xfinity Arena. As broadcaster Mike Benton noted, that’s one-fourth of their 36-game road schedule already knocked out. So while the trip was difficult in terms of wins, I’m sure the Tips are glad to put it behind them and move on.
The Turning Point
Brett Davis won a faceoff at 13:02 in the Everett zone and immediately played it to Vince Loschiavo for the game-winning goal.
