SEATTLE _ Terrence Jones kept the University of Washington men’s basketball program waiting.
And then he broke the Huskies’ hearts.
According to a report on Scout.com, the 6-foot-9 McDonald’s All-American who verbally committed to UW on April 30 decided Wednesday night that the University of Kentucky was the place for him.
Jones, a Portland native, could have been the most highly-regarded out-of-state recruit of the Lorenzo Romar era. He helped Jefferson High School win three Oregon state titles and was ranked among the top 15 prospects in the country.
In a live press conference that was cast on the internet on April 30, Jones announced that he had chosen UW over Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Oregon and Oklahoma. But Jones’s Jefferson High coach, Pat Strickland, told Scout.com Wednesday night that the prized recruit signed a financial-aid agreement with UK.
If the report is true, the Huskies are left with a three-member recruiting class: 6-4 Terrence Ross of Portland, 6-6 Desmond Simmons of Northern California and 7-foot junior-college transfer Aziz N’diaye.
